Thesaurus Type Registry entry

Specify whether the IRN-based Thesaurus or the standard Thesaurus is implemented in EMu.

Description

Two models of the Thesaurus module are available in EMu, the standard version and an IRN-based model:

Type	Details
Standard	The standard model is the default version shipped with EMu. In this model the primary An attachment is made from one record to another. The record from which the attachment is initiated is the Primary record; the record that is attached is called the Target. field is a Lookup List Also known as a Pick List or Authority List, a Lookup List is a list of the values that have either been used or are suggested for use in a field. Rather than keying a value into the field, it is possible to pick a value from the Lookup List; the selected value will populate the field. ; populating the field with a value from the Thesaurus is achieved by selecting a term from the Lookup List: The primary field (in the Catalogue module for example) stores the text of the selected Thesaurus value, not the IRN of the Thesaurus record for that Term. When the standard model of the Thesaurus is implemented, the value of the Thesaurus Type Registry entry is `Lookup`.
IRN-based	The IRN-based model requires development work to be available in your implementation of EMu. In this model the primary field is an attachment field A field in a module that can be linked (attached) to a record in the same or another module. When an attachment has been made, the target record's Summary Data displays in the attachment field.; populating the field with a value from the Thesaurus is achieved by searching the Thesaurus for a term and attaching it to the current record: Tip: The Thesaurus button includes a link icon when the field is configured as an attachment field. The primary field stores the IRN of the Thesaurus record. An advantage of the IRN-based model is the ability to populate other fields in the primary record with additional information extracted from the attached record; and, of course, any update to the term in the Thesaurus is automatically reflected in any record attached to it. When the IRN-based model of the Thesaurus is implemented, the value of the Thesaurus Type Registry entry is `Attach`.

Note: From EMu 10 onwards it is typically unnecessary to add this Registry entry as the value is automatically determined and the entry added to EMu. In earlier versions of EMu the entry is mandatory if your system is running the IRN-based version of the Thesaurus.
